25th Birthday of Czech Geocaching
It was Friday, June 1, 2001, when a modest traditional cache named Tex-Czech (GCE50) appeared near Štramberk on Geocaching.com. Although treasure hunting with satellite navigation had already been working successfully for over a year and many similar simple caches existed, this ordinary traditional was exceptional. It was the very first cache in the Czech Republic! Over the next 25 years, our community became one of the most active in the world, and now it's time to gather, reminisce, and celebrate our shared passion for Geocaching. Come celebrate 25 years of Geocaching in the Czech Republic with us!
We'll meet at a unique venue that lets us celebrate the birthday of Czech Geocaching on a chimney and underground, indoors and outdoors on a riverside meadow! And where is this magical place?
Old Wastewater Treatment Plant
In Prague's Bubeneč district you'll find spaces that are a unique testament to history, architecture, steam engineering, and wastewater treatment dating back to 1906. The complex, dominated by the Art Nouveau treatment plant building, offers a chance to explore unique underground areas, including original technology. Thanks to its exceptional state of preservation, the Old Treatment Plant became the cradle of domestic interest in industrial history and even earned a place on UNESCO's indicative list. As such, it is one of the most significant sites of industrial heritage not only in our country, but across Europe. And in 2026, it will also be celebrating the 120th anniversary of its founding!

Geocaching
Geocaching is a worldwide game that blends fun and sport. Its main activity is searching for hidden containers using satellite navigation. At the same time, it's a broad platform for active leisure, a source of discovery, an opportunity for travel, and a way to connect people across ages and social groups.
Geocaching operates on a community principle — caches are placed by geocachers for other geocachers.
The first geocache in the world was created on May 3, 2000. Today, there are more than three million of them hidden worldwide.
The first geocache in the Czech Republic was placed on June 1, 2001. There are currently over 60,000 geocaches and 70,000 active player accounts in the Czech Republic, representing roughly 100,000 people.
Geocache / Cache / "Keška"
A container placed in an interesting location. Its coordinates are listed on the website www.geocaching.com. It can take many forms — from a simple plastic food box, to a fake birdhouse, or even a model frog. The imagination of creators is vast, and they constantly come up with new ideas.
New caches are being created all the time, but some also disappear. Since geocaching began, over 100,000 geocaches have been placed in the Czech Republic — of which more than 40,000 no longer exist.
Geocacher / Player
A geocaching player. They search for geocaches hidden by others, and when they have a good idea, they create a new cache for others to find.
Geocaching Events
In geocaching, events are gatherings of geocachers. They offer opportunities to meet fellow players and enjoy interesting programs.
Larger events are called mega or giga events. To be classified as a megaevent, an event must have at least 300 registered attendees and an engaging program. To qualify as a gigaevent, at least 3,000 geocachers must be registered. Geocachers sign up for events by logging a Will Attend.
